About this course
This half day session will provide a brief introduction to Quality Improvement (QI) for NHS staff, Service Users and Carers who are either involved in QI projects or thinking about being involved and want to learn more about the Model for Improvement. During this CPD accredited training you will learn about the model for improvement, how to develop a driver diagram and run PDSA cycles.We will also start to explore the use of data as measures for improvement.
Skills You will Learn

Knowledge of the Model for Improvement as a framework to facilitate improvement

Improvement Advisor
I am a paediatric intensive care nurse by background. Currently, I am an Improvement Advisor and Coach with the CNWL Improvement Academy.
I have work in both clinical and non-clinical leadership roles within the NHS. Most recently, I have come from an operations management role with Theatres & intensive care at the Royal Free London NSHFT. I have led wide-scale safety improvement collaboratives at both regional and local levels with UCL Partners, Royal Free London & CNWL NHSFT in collaboration with the IHI.
I am passionate about safety and improvement within healthcare and am looking forward to working with individuals and teams to support improvement across the system.
Dr Isaac Sarkodie Obeng
Improvement Coach
Dr Isaac Sarkodie Obeng is an improvement Coach at CNWL and he is very passionate about patient or service user involvement in quality improvement initiatives. He has considerable experience having worked as a clinician, healthcare manager and an academic. The synergistic value obtained from this career path informs his improvement practice. His international experience also helps him share unique insights for quality improvement.
As a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, he has demonstrable competencies in adopting a wide array of effective educational approaches to support teaching and learning. He is also able to incorporate current subject and pedagogic scholarship within quality improvement training, as part of an evidence-based approach to improvement practice.
Sam Heritage
Improvement Coach
Sam began his NHS career at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust working as a Quality Improvement Project Manager. In his time there, the principle share of his portfolio concerned the reduction of Clostridium Difficile. It offered a unique perspective and challenge working in an acute setting such as Bolton. Moving to CNWL, a new challenge presented itself having never worked with community services before. Joining CNWL in March 2024 has been a real privilege and the team couldn’t have been more welcoming.
Sam’s interest in healthcare began during the final year of his undergraduate at the University of Sheffield, the history of medicine in India during the 18-20th centuries was a key focus. Following this, during his time at the University of Manchester, Sam wrote his MSc thesis on the history and pathology of Cystic Fibrosis. This work focused principally on the relationship between patient and practitioner in the context of a chronic condition. This awareness is something that has been really valuable working in QI. Sam thrives when meeting new people and working with both clinical and corporate teams.
