About this course

This workshop aims to provide participants with an overview and foundational knowledge of common conditions and risk factors associated with falls. It will explore how to support patients with these conditions by reducing fall risk and applying appropriate prevention and management techniques.

 

The half day face to face workshop will cover:

Skills You will Learn

By the end of this workshop, attendees will:

  • Understand what falls are and why falls prevention is important
  • Be familiar with NHS and CQC guidance related to falls
  • Identify key falls risk factors
  • Recognise common conditions and groups of medications that can increase the risk of falls
  • Understand the effects of ageing and exercise on the body, and how to start a basic exercise group
  • Understand how vision, hearing, fluid intake, and nutrition affect the body and contribute to falls risk
  • Appreciate the importance of good foot health in preventing falls
  • Gain an insight into different types of dementia and practical tips for managing challenging behaviour
  • Share experiences, network, and learn from others
  • Be invited to attend our quarterly free online falls forum for continued learning and support

11:45- 12.15: Dementia and Challenging Behaviour

12:15- 12:40: Setting up a Basic Exercise Group in Your Care Home

                       Mobility Aids

12:40- 13:00: Q&A, Network, Feedback

13:00: Finish

 

Please note: 13:00-17:00 is also a possibility, if this time is better suited to care home staff, given the rush of morning routines.
